After many years spent driving around in circles looking for parking spaces, we decided it was time to leave the concrete jungle of San Francisco in search of peace and quiet (and ample parking). Well, we found it; in the middle of a lemon and avocado orchard in Southern California.
It all started with the original Mermaid Swaddle Tail ©, which Rochelle created in 2012 just before our daughter was born. The arrival of our baby girl inspired us to change pace and revive our passions. After dreaming up more products and working out prototypes while juggling our respective careers, we decided it was time to fully commit; it was time to build something unique and special. Little House in the Orchard officially launched in June 2014.
Affordable, classic style, infused with pops of color, nature, and a dash of play, all our wears are handmade in the orchard from original patterns. Rochelle, who has been sewing since age seven (thanks to her mom!), thoughtfully constructs each garment, before it's carefully wrapped and shipped to you. We are fortunate to be able to merge our backgrounds in studio art with apparel design; the fabric used to make our cotton knit garments features our original drawings and paintings, printed on organic, cotton knit (exclusive to Little House in the Orchard). The other fabrics used in our products are sourced from reputable textile designers and distributors, all based in the USA. We believe handmade does not have to be poorly made; we stand behind the quality and durability of every piece that leaves the orchard.
A few short months after we opened, we were named a Martha Stewart American Made finalist, and are now an American Made partner selling our wears in Martha Stewart's marketplace.
In our little house in the orchard we make things we love, and we hope you and the little ones in your life will too.
